BREITLING Ref. 80940 Compass Navy Seals Military 1980s

Here we have Breitling Ref. 80940, a wonderful example of a robust tactical watch invented for the special forces. This is a true example of a tool watch. The 38 mm case is in great vintage condition. Most of these watches have a worn down PVD coating, but not this example. The PVD coating shows almost no signs of use. Even the edges are still coated and without any havey dents or scratches. The dial is in perfect condition with the date set at 3 o clock and a beautiful aged handset.  The simple Breitling-logo alongside the clean indexes and the big handset are harmonious and well balanced. This watch is a tactical military timepiece made for special forces and its use in military operations. One feature is the big handset what makes it easy to read the time even in the darkest of all nights. Another great feature is the compass underneath the dial. It can be removed from the watchcase. Unfortunatley Breitling used disposable compasses back then with not very good sealing. That is why most of the 80940 compasses are not working any more. The fluid is evaporated over the years and can not be refilled since there is no valve for that. We have contact to a restorator for compasses, who can drill the compass and refill if needed. But we decided to leave the compass at it is and refill on customers wish. This WRISTCLASSIC is powered by a quartz movement, running strong and keeping time well. The watch comes with a tactical strap by the swiss military brand Victorinox. This Breitling is a rare and cool 80s military watch. Developed for its use in special forces operations it can by your daily watch too. It’s a true WRISTCLASSIC with perfect proportions, timeless styling, and a great reference to the military. This is the real deal, everything you would want in a vintage chronograph.
