ETERNA KonTiki 20 Steel with original Gay Frères Bracelet

Here we have a Eterna KonTiki 20, a wonderful example of a toolwatch with a great reference to the sailing expedition by Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl in 1947. This beautiful vintage watch comes with a crisp, light polished case in great condition with sharp edges. This example is fitted in a perfectly sized, well-preserved 37 mm case. It offers a fairly wide-set bezel that gives this watch a nice presence. The dial is allover in clean condition with a great patina and only light signs of use. The simple Eterna-logo alongside the beautiful indexes and hands are harmonious and well balanced. The luminous materials on both the dial and hands have aged to a very pleasing deep yellow patina. The date is set at 3 o´clock. The crown is original. This vintage watch is powered by a cal. 1489K automatic movement, running strong and keeping time well. It comes with an original Gay-Frères steel-bracelet in great condition. This iconic Eterna KonTiki 20 was created in 1958 in honor for Mr. Thor Heyerdahl, who started a sailing expedition in 1947 comprising 8000 miles across the Pacific with a boat called “KonTiki”. This WRISTCLASSIC comes with perfect proportions, timeless styling, and a great reference to the sailing expedition of 1947. A true toolwatch ready for everyday wear.

Eterna SA was founded in 1856 by the doctor Josef Girard and Urs Schild in Grenchen, Switzerland. In1932, Eterna had set up a subsidiary company, ETA SA, making movements for itself and other Swiss watch companies. Til today ETA produces movement for different watch-companies all over the world. 1948, Eterna developed the Eterna-matic automatic movement. The use of five ball bearings made the movement very efficient and significantly reduced friction and resistance on the oscillating weight. This reduced the wear and increased the watch’s accuracy and useful life. The movement and watches became quickly popular. The KonTiki 20 is probably one of the most famous watches by Eterna.
